Can someone please point me in the right direction? I'd like to upgrade my CityNavigator software from version 6 to 9, but I can only see the full retail price version on the Garmin website.  Is there an upgrade version available, and how do I go about obtaining it?

I've had a look on the garmin website, but all I can find is an upgrade for Mapsource.

Do you mean City Select, if so that is MapSource and there is no upgrade from 6 to 9, you would have to buy the complete new product. I only got 8 as my SPIII came with 7 when 8 was released so had an upgrade path but I would have to buy the full product as well if I wanted 9

You can go to the link below and check to see if upgrades are available. If not then you will need to purchase Mapsource City Navigator 9 at the full price.

I have version 8 which I bought as I was unable to upgrade the old one, I then bougt a Zumo 550 which came with V9, it broke and was sent away, they replaced it with a new 550 which came with Mapsource 2008, I contacted them and they told me this is the latest version. to be honest the difference between V8 and the latest one is not that noticeable, check out Ebay as they sometimes have older versions for sale.

Unless that one way street, the old software still thinks goes one way, goes the other now  Shocked Its one thing that does annoy me a little bit with the software, simple map updates should be available to download but they never are, its always a case of having to get the latest version of the software Sad and then that software may not be compatable with your curent GPS unit and you have to upgrade that as well Crying or Very sad

You dont say which Garmin GPS you are using. The newer versions as in 27xx/28xx or Zumo all use City Navigator NT and the latest version is v9.

Older versions use City Navigator and the difference between this and NT version is that the NT comes on a DVD as opposed to a CD and carries a lot more information.

You will need to purchase the latest version from Garmin themselves as I dont think any one else sells it.

Try this link for information on Mapsource.

I've just had a reply from Garmin Product Support Ref their Software for the SPIII.  The new upgrade (Ver 10) is due out "in the next few months."  Whether this takes the form of 3d mapping, I don't know but it will be interesting to see "how much" and "when".

Thanks all.  It's a Streetpilot III

While I can accept that I have to pay for an upgrade, I'm not keen to buy the full product.  I think street upgrades should eb the same as anti virus upgrades, ie pay $40 and get a years worth of changes.

Try contacting NavTech who produce the maps for Garmin.

Apparently they are cheaper.

For me, the Garmin product is cheap enough that I'm happy to pay every other year for an full upgrade.

I've had an email today advising that City Navigator 2008 has now been released.  More info available from Garmin.com.

However since putting the original post up I have got rid of the Streetpilot and got myself a Nokia 6110 phone with the GPS on board.  More info on the Nokia will follow when I have the bike mounting kit.
