This article, from 2012, http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Bl.../story-17646715-detail/story.html, says someone is already covering the East Ridings, and according to the NABB, Bloodfast used to cover Hull and surrounding areas, but apparently they no longer operate.

Quote:
Bloodfast
Bloodfast was established in June 2007 by John Spinks, covering Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. BloodFast is a company that does commercial courier work for the hospitals in the daytime, but uses volunteers to provide a free-of-charge service in the evenings and at weekends. Income from the commercial activities funds the free-of-charge work. BloodFast operates two motorcycles, and five cars - all equipped with blue lights and sirens. Bloodfast sadly no longer operates.

They still appear to have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/bloodfast.evs, so they may be willing to give you some info.

If not http://www.whiteknights.org.uk/ cover North and West Yorkshire, and apparently are expanding to South Yorkshire too, and http://www.bloodrun.co.uk/ cover the North East, although they may be a bit too far north for you.

If none of these can help, have a look at http://www.bloodbikes.org.uk/, and ask them for info, they'll point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps.
Ian

Further email received from David Baldwin

Message as follows:

Hi Sam,

I tried some years ago to within "blood runners" get an area  group up and running, All of our area Suffolk Norfolk Cambridgeshire & I think Bedfordshire run from Huntingdon Path services, They were very anti towards me and any kind of outside help spurting the rules & law etc,

Now Blood runners are a big operation with special bagged bikes etc, But like always when things like that get bigger the rule book comes in training courses and they lose the way and reasons it was first set up to do.

I am based in the Essex & Suffolk boarder (Sudbury) which I think is out of your area!

Are you thinking of setting up another completion operation (No Pun) or another area within Blood runners?

I wish you well, Happy to chat ask any questions you like.

David Baldwin.

Hi David,

I've been a member of SERVSC for about a year now, and haven't experienced any of what you describe.

The only training I have been required to undertake, is the "GMP" training (basics in materials handling and what to do if problems arise), and an advanced rider course.

The GMP is required by the hospitals, before they will allow us to transport the cargo, and the advanced is a good idea anyway.

We have 2 liveried bikes, which are available to use by any member, but most of us use our own vehicles.

If you're still interested, I'd recommend contacting SERVSC, as the infrastructure is already there and they're a great bunch guys and girls.  No point inventing the wheel, and all that. Cool

Ian

Just for info - Bloodfast does still operate in the Hull and East Riding area.

We supply free out of hours service in the same way as other Blood Bike charities in addition to contracted daytime work.

Bigshakers would be better contacting Bloodfast and volunteering as we already provide the service he is looking at setting up!
